With my art, I am a storyteller. I celebrate the loveliness of creation, the deep beauty of flowers and everyday scenes, telling stories through shape, color and feeling. When I encounter a place that moves me, I feel compelled to share how it makes me feel and invite others into that experience through a visual language.
My work explores the emotional landscape of the world around us: the vastness and smallness, radiant joy, natural beauty, calm and peace. By using magnified colors and simplified shapes, I distill scenes to their most essential elements, emphasizing what feels meaningful rather than what is merely seen. I enjoy offering viewers new ways of seeing familiar places, inviting them to linger and discover something unexpected.
I am especially drawn to florals and still lifes, often working up close to magnify the subject. This approach allows me to use bold colors and basic shapes to create work that feels immersive and intimate, encouraging the viewer to pause and engage. While most of my work is rooted in reality, it is depicted in a loose, informal style with heightened color to emphasize emotion and atmosphere.
Narrative is embedded throughout my work. There is grief in Bill’s Persimmons and anger over injustice in Essential and Forgotten. There are bright colors and details to illustrate and add subtle narrative and emotional depth to the children’s stories The Egg Lady and Mrs. Eggy’s Big Excitement. Even in lighter works, storytelling is carried through color, detail and composition.
My preferred mediums are pastel and acrylic, though I also enjoy playing with collage and watercolor. Across all mediums, my goal is to create work that invites contemplation, emotional connection and a renewed way of seeing the world.
